On October 13, the Institute of Applied Sciences at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology organized a seminar titled “Protein in Nutrition and Food Processing” to provide Food Technology students with valuable knowledge about nutrition and protein.

Accompanying the students at the seminar was MD. Do Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice President of the Vietnam Nutrition Association and Head of the HUTECH Department of Nutrition and Food Science. The seminar also featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thai Van Nam, Vice Director of the HUTECH Institute of Applied Sciences; Dr. Lam Van Man, Head of the Department of Food Technology; and lecturers from the HUTECH Institute of Applied Sciences.
MD. Do Thi Ngoc Diep highlights the crucial role of nutrition in human health
At the seminar, MD. Do Thi Ngoc Diep demonstrated to students the importance of nutrition for human health and highlighted the current status of malnutrition and stunting in Vietnam. The speaker also discussed the causes and consequences of nutritional disorders and outlined the principles of proper nutrition.
Regarding protein, MD. Do Thi Ngoc Diep discussed several key topics with the students: the role of protein in the body, protein structure and classification, the protein needs of Vietnamese people, and the protein content in various foods. To keep students updated on developments in the field, the speaker also introduced the application, composition, and classification of whey protein, a widely recognized protein source today.
As part of the seminar, MD. Do Thi Ngoc Diep explained to students how to calculate the energy needed for each individual and estimate the energy content in the foods we consume daily. This valuable knowledge helps students ensure they meet their nutritional and energy needs when selecting food.
At the seminar, Dr. Lam Van Man introduced the history of the department, the teaching staff, the curriculum, and job opportunities to Food Technology freshmen, helping them become familiar with their "shared home" for the journey ahead.
