To provide students with practical information on the application of biotechnology to solve environmental problems, the Institute of Applied Sciences at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) organized a seminar titled "Environmental Biology and Application of Microbiological Technology in Wastewater Treatment" on October 27.
The seminar provided students with practical information on the application of biotechnology
The guest speaker at the seminar was Mr. Khuu Thien Minh from the Microbiology Department at Dat Hop Company Limited. The seminar was also attended by Dr. Lam Vinh Son, Vice Director of the Institute of Applied Sciences.
Speakers, guests and lecturers of the Institute attending the seminar With detailed insights from speaker Khuu Thien Minh, students gained an overview of the definition, role, and application of biotechnology in the environment. According to the EPFL/LEB (Lab for Environmental Biotechnology), environmental biotechnology combines principles from various branches of science and technology, utilizing the biochemical capabilities of microorganisms, plants, or their components to restore and protect the environment and use resources sustainably.
Mr. Khuu Thien Minh explains the role and application of biotechnology in the environment
The speaker explained that environmental biology involves the application of biotechnology in the environmental industry to treat wastewater, air, and solid waste pollution. Additionally, the speaker analyzed how microbial technology works in wastewater treatment, highlighting the benefits and efficiency of microorganisms in biological treatment processes. He also discussed several biological wastewater treatment technologies currently in use, such as conventional aerobic activated sludge technology (Aerotank), sequenced batch reactor (SBR) technology, moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) technology, and upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) technology. As part of the seminar, speaker Thien Minh introduced students to new, environmentally friendly treatment methods for wastewater, using multi-purpose biological preparations such as Microbe-Lift Ind, Microbe-Lift N1, and Microbe-Lift DGTT.
Multi-purpose biological preparations such as Microbe-Lift Ind, Microbe-Lift N1, Microbe-Lift DGTT introduced at the seminar
With a spirit of curiosity and eagerness to learn, students not only gained valuable knowledge about the application of microbial biotechnology in environmental treatment but also actively engaged with the speakers, asking questions and receiving clear, informative answers.
The seminar provided students with valuable professional knowledge to enhance their learning and research
Applying modern biotechnology to address environmental issues is an urgent matter today. Gaining experience and insights from the speakers helps students at the HUTECH Institute of Applied Sciences strengthen their professional knowledge, better preparing them for their future careers.
