In his opening remarks, Mr. Vo Van Hoan, member of the Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, stated: “In a time of profound global transformation, development models relying on natural resources and cheap labor are revealing their limitations. We need to seek new growth drivers, such as models rooted in science, technology, innovation, and especially green technologies. We strongly believe that GSETS 2025 will serve as a key catalyst in promoting interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder collaboration, fostering connections among research centers, universities, businesses, and governmental agencies as we work toward a sustainable, innovative, and human-centered development model.”

GSETS 2025 brings together nearly 300 leading scientists and researchers from countries such as the United States, India, Italy, Australia, China, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and Taiwan. With a broader scope and upgraded scale compared to the inaugural event in 2023, this year’s conference is expected to have a significant impact, opening new avenues for international academic exchange in materials science, green technologies, data science, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The conference also provides a platform for domestic and international participants to explore new research directions and discuss the practical application of scientific and technological solutions for Vietnam’s sustainable development. Notably, the event is one of HUTECH’s key activities leading up to its 30th anniversary celebration (April 26, 1995 – April 26, 2025).

Held over April 10–11, GSETS 2025 includes two plenary sessions, three parallel sessions, and a poster exhibition. The conference program focuses on three main themes: (1) Advanced materials and green manufacturing technologies (2) Sustainable development technologies and solutions (3) Data science and artificial intelligence for sustainability.

First-day highlights include a plenary session, two parallel sessions, and the poster exhibition

Following the opening ceremony, the conference entered its first working day with Plenary Session 1, Parallel Sessions 1 and 2, and the launch of the poster exhibition. Researchers presented and discussed several notable topics, including:
  • Artificial Intelligence in Computational Mechanics
  • Nature-based Solutions for Sustainable Environmental Management: Examples from Italy
  • Credit Card Fraud Detection in the Age of AI: A Multi-Dimensional Approach
  • Magnetorheological Fluids and Their Applications in Force Feedback Systems
  • The Role of Digital Technology in Business Performance: Evidence from an Emerging Economy
  • Evaluating the Impact of Project-Based Design Education on Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship: A Case Study at HUTECH
“These presentations primarily focus on topics such as nanomaterials, biotechnology, food technology, natural materials, health sciences, renewable energy technologies, material efficiency, and environmental emissions reduction,” shared Prof. Dr. Le Van Canh, Vice President of HUTECH and Chair of the Organizing Committee. “These are areas where HUTECH has built strong academic networks with prominent international researchers. In the near future, we plan to deepen our engagement in these fields and collaborate with industry to translate research into real-world applications.”

The conference received more than 170 paper submissions. Seven were selected for plenary presentations and over 40 for parallel sessions. All submissions underwent a rigorous peer review process, and selected papers are expected to be published in special issues of reputable scientific journals. The conference will continue on April 11 with Plenary Session 2, Parallel Session 3, and the closing ceremony.

METS Journal officially launched, with Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung as Editor-in-Chief

As part of the GSETS 2025 opening ceremony, the launch of the METS Journal (Materials and Emerging Technologies for Sustainability) was held. The journal is the result of a collaboration between HUTECH and World Scientific Publishing, one of the world’s leading academic publishers specializing in science, technology, and innovation. METS brings together nearly 20 experts and scholars from the United States, Australia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, India, Malaysia, and China. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, Director of CIRTech Institute, serves as the Editor-in-Chief. The launch marks an important milestone for HUTECH in advancing research quality, strengthening international academic connections, and promoting sustainable development through science and innovation.

Dr. Kieu Xuan Hung, Chairman of the University Board of Directors, emphasized that launching METS is one of HUTECH’s key strategies in fulfilling its mission to promote research and disseminate knowledge. “Together, we aim to build a dynamic, creative, and connected research community, where every scholarly contribution becomes a building block toward a sustainable future. We also share a common understanding that sustainability is not just about industry or energy. It is deeply intertwined with education, research, and innovation.”
