On the morning of April 4, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) had an official working session with a delegation from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln (UNL), aiming to boost international collaboration and promote sustainable development in the field of Information Technology.
Before the meeting, the UNL delegation attended the HUTECH IT Open Day 2025, an annual recruitment and tech exhibition event that brings together IT businesses and HUTECH students. It was a great opportunity for the delegation to explore HUTECH’s education-industry ecosystem and speak directly with students about career trends and industry demands.
Representing UNL were Ms. Maegan Stevens-Liska – Assistant Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Witty Srisa – Director of the School of Computing
During the meeting, HUTECH and UNL shared overviews of their institutions and discussed their strategic directions. Introducing UNL, the representatives noted that the university was established in 1869 and is recognized as one of the top research institutions in the U.S. It has a strong reputation in engineering and information technology, with the School of Computing offering leading programs in areas like Computer Science and Software Engineering.

On HUTECH’s side, Dr. Ly Thien Trang – Vice President – emphasized the university’s commitment to building a comprehensive, sustainable education system with a strong international outlook. She highlighted HUTECH’s continued achievement of a 4-star QS Stars rating for the second consecutive cycle, which reflects its efforts to improve education quality and offer a modern learning environment. The university also places a strong focus on supporting students’ holistic development and preparing them to thrive in the global job market.

Both sides agreed on the importance of internationalizing education, especially in the era of digital transformation and globalization. The UNL delegation also shared their intention to expand partnerships across Asia, with Vietnam being one of their top priorities. A notable highlight was the mention of Dr. David Vu, a HUTECH alum who studied at UNL and is now an inventor at Kamterter Product, L.L.C (USA), as a prime example of successful international academic collaboration.

In terms of concrete collaboration, the two sides discussed joint academic models, along with a number of valuable scholarship opportunities for HUTECH students. They also touched on the Sandwich PhD Program for HUTECH faculty, which would allow lecturers from both universities to conduct joint research and contribute to global knowledge in the IT field.
