At the start of 2025, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) received excellent news: it maintained the QS Stars 4-Star certification for the second evaluation cycle. This certification follows the latest QS Stars version 6.0 standards, introduced by QS in February 2024. The announcement was made on December 30, 2024, by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the renowned global higher education ranking organization.
HUTECH achieves QS Stars 4-Star certification in the second cycle
The updated QS Stars 2024 standards for the second cycle include nine criteria: Teaching, Employability, Facilities, Good Governance, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Academic Development, Programme Strength, Global Engagement, and Environmental Impact.
In this cycle, HUTECH proudly earned 5-star ratings in 5 out of the 9 criteria: Teaching, Employability, Facilities, Good Governance, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Particularly notable is the Good Governance criterion, a new addition in version 6.0, where HUTECH achieved 5 stars in its very first evaluation.
This result highlights HUTECH’s continued commitment to international-quality education. The university has actively developed its academic programs and modern teaching environments with a focus on sustainability. Through diverse policies supporting students’ academic and personal growth, HUTECH enables them to acquire comprehensive skills and knowledge to thrive in the global and digital workforce.
HUTECH continuously innovates to foster holistic student development
In 2022, HUTECH achieved QS 4-Star certification in its first evaluation. At that time, the university earned 5-star ratings in 5 out of 8 criteria: Teaching Quality (135/150), Employability (130/150), Facilities (83/100), Academic Development (138/150), and Comprehensive Development (35/50). These achievements underscored HUTECH’s strengths and aligned with its strategic development goals.
The QS Stars 6.0 standards introduced in 2024 expanded the number of criteria from 8 to 9 and refined evaluation elements within each criterion to ensure a comprehensive, objective, and globally relevant assessment of universities.
QS has integrated elements aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to guide universities toward international alignment and equip graduates with skills to address societal and global challenges. One major addition is the Good Governance criterion, which evaluates a university’s strategic development, risk management, staff satisfaction, quality assurance, policies supporting the SDGs, transparency, and gender equity.
Moreover, QS has updated several existing criteria to reflect emerging trends in global higher education. The Comprehensive Development criterion has been replaced by Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; sustainability considerations are now integrated into Environmental Impact; and the Global Engagement criterion replaces Internationalization. The term "Global Engagement" reflects a broader focus on diverse, comprehensive internationalization activities, which have become increasingly essential in the global higher education landscape.
