On December 20, the scientific conference titled “Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship Among Students: Current Situation and Policy Solutions” was held in Ho Chi Minh City. The event was organized by the National Council for Education and Human Resource Development. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, Director of the Vietnam-Japan Institute of Technology (VJIT) at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), participated as a presenter.

The conference was chaired by Deputy Minister of Education and Training – Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Chi. It brought together representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), the National Council for Education and Human Resource Development, the Education and Social Affairs Department under the Government Office, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, and several universities, such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, and Nguyen Tat Thanh University. Representing HUTECH, alongside Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, was Prof. Dr. Le Van Canh, Vice President.
In her opening remarks, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Chi outlined four primary objectives: (1) Assessing the current state of innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) initiatives at universities and proposing solutions to support policymaking (2) Exploring effective I&E education models to inspire students (3) Identifying funding sources for I&E activities (4) Evaluating policies and state management mechanisms related to I&E initiatives among students.

At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung delivered a presentation titled “The Model of Innovation Education Integrated with the Startup Ecosystem at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH).” He emphasized the importance of developing a comprehensive startup ecosystem within universities to drive innovation, enhance the quality of human resources, and contribute to socio-economic growth. He introduced HUTECH’s robust ecosystem, which includes initiatives like the HUTECH Startup Wings competition, specialized training programs, corporate partnerships, mentor networks, the Startup Club, the HUTECH Entrepreneurs Club, and the HUTECH Alumni Association. These initiatives equip students with essential entrepreneurial skills and knowledge to bring their business ideas to life. He also highlighted HUTECH’s recognition as one of the five universities selected for Week of Ho Chi Minh City Innovation, Startup and Entrepreneurship 2024 (WHISE 2024), held on December 17.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung also shared insights on HUTECH’s educational approach to I&E, focusing on its Project Design Education model. Courses such as “Project Design Thinking,” “Innovation & Entrepreneurial Thinking,” and “Project Design 3” are designed to integrate seamlessly with specialized subjects. This interdisciplinary approach enables students to apply knowledge effectively to real-world projects, enhancing both their practical and theoretical skills.

A key feature of HUTECH’s initiatives is their alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their high level of practical application. Topics for these courses are chosen to address current innovation trends in Ho Chi Minh City, such as Green Universities, Smart Cities, Smart Transportation, Elderly Healthcare, Green-Circular Economy Development, and Smart Tourism.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung’s contributions provided practical solutions for promoting innovation and entrepreneurship among students. His insights were highly regarded by Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Chi and other participants. Furthermore, his presentation underscored HUTECH’s leadership in driving I&E initiatives, supporting Vietnam’s vision for sustainable development.
