From November 5 to 7, the leadership team from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) attended the QS Higher Ed Summit Asia Pacific under the theme “Shifting Landscapes, Collaborative Solutions: Pioneering Innovation in Asia Pacific Higher Education.” The event was hosted by the Macau University of Science and Technology in China.

The HUTECH delegation, led by Dr. Ly Thien Trang, Vice President, also included Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Vice President, and Prof. Dr. Le Van Canh, Vice President.

This annual summit brought together nearly 2,000 participants, including university leaders, experts, higher education administrators, and government representatives from the Asia-Pacific region. It provided a platform for discussing current and future challenges in higher education and exploring solutions through collaboration in education and research. The event also equipped leaders with actionable strategies to address the most pressing challenges facing higher education institutions in the region.
Focusing on “Shifting Landscapes, Collaborative Solutions: Pioneering Innovation in Asia Pacific Higher Education,” the summit presented a comprehensive view of higher education in a rapidly changing context. Key topics discussed by speakers, experts, and administrators included: Strategies and challenges in higher education, Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, Sustainability and the role of higher education, Collaborative research and building strategic partnerships to address challenges in higher education.

During the summit, Dr. Ly Thien Trang participated in a panel discussion with university leaders on the topic, “How Higher Education Systems Can Adapt to Rapid Changes in the Workforce and Lifelong Learning.” The discussion focused on critical challenges faced by university leaders, such as: Integrating emerging topics that students demand, Updating curricula and innovating teaching methods, Addressing challenges from businesses and communities, Helping students develop essential skills, including problem-solving, design thinking, critical thinking, teamwork, lifelong learning, digital literacy, and AI competencies.

The discussion also focused on promoting the ethical use of new technologies, such as Chat GPT, aligning innovation with business needs, and ensuring graduates are prepared for the rapidly changing job market. It emphasized the development of short-term courses (micro-credentials) to equip both students and workers with the essential knowledge and skills to meet current job demands and adapt to new roles as the labor market evolves. Additionally, experts exchanged views on the challenges and opportunities AI brings to education, paving the way for a future of AI-driven educational advancements.
Notably, Dr. Ly Thien Trang participated in a Vice Chancellors/Deputy Vice Chancellors dialogue session, invited by QS, which provided an opportunity for university leaders to discuss current challenges in higher education, preparation for the future amidst rapid workforce changes, the emergence and impact of AI in education and research, and the role of international collaboration in forming strategic partnerships to address global challenges such as sustainable development.
HUTECH signing agreements with two universities to expand research and collaboration opportunities
In addition to discussions and knowledge-sharing, the QS Higher Ed Summit 2024 served as a venue for fostering international collaborations. On the sidelines of the summit, HUTECH signed agreements with two universities: Asia Pacific University (Malaysia) and AL-AHLIYYA AMMA University (Jordan). These partnerships aim to strengthen cooperation in research, faculty and student exchange programs, and benchmarking in education.
