Prof. Dr. Sc. Ho Dac Loc: "A teacher’s path lays the foundation for society"

Prof. Dr. Sc. Ho Dac Loc, President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), delivered a heartfelt speech on the theme of "honoring teachers and respecting their guidance" during the university's 42nd Vietnamese Teachers’ Day celebration on November 20. His remarks offered deep insights into the timeless role of teachers within Vietnam’s cultural and historical context.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Sc. Ho Dac Loc sought to uphold and extend the tradition of honoring teachers and respecting their guidance. He explored the dual concepts of "teacher" and "path," emphasizing the indispensable value of educators in shaping society. “‘Teacher’ refers simply to the educator, but ‘path’ carries a more profound meaning,” he explained. “It represents the guidance a teacher provides—not just the transfer of knowledge, but also leading students toward truth and virtue. Respecting this ‘path’ means valuing the direction and framework that teachers establish, which help students discover truth and gain deeper insights into life.”

Prof. Dr. Sc. Ho Dac Loc emphasized that despite the rapid advancements of technology—where powerful search engines and artificial intelligence can answer nearly any question—teachers remain irreplaceable. "Life is not binary, like the 0s and 1s of digital systems," he remarked. "It is filled with countless nuances. Teachers, with their understanding and experience, help students navigate uncertainty, offering direction and instilling values like compassion, kindness, and social responsibility."
Quoting the renowned educator Chu Van An, Prof. Dr. Sc. Ho Dac Loc highlighted the critical role of education in society’s progress. He said, “A teacher’s path lays the foundation for society, initiating the journey toward enduring values. As educators, we are privileged to undertake this noble mission of imparting truth and fostering goodness in generations of students. I extend my deepest gratitude to all teachers who have guided countless students and contributed to building a strong foundation for education.”
His words resonated deeply, inspiring HUTECH’s educators as they continue their mission to nurture future generations
The ceremony also highlighted the achievements of HUTECH and its community. The university was honored to receive an emulation flag from the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor for its outstanding achievements in the 2023–2024 academic year, recognizing excellence in promoting labor performance and strengthening labor union activities. This award reflects the collective efforts of HUTECH’s faculty, staff, and administrators in advancing the university’s development and its contributions to society.
HUTECH proudly received the Emulation Flag awarded by the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor
Fifteen groups and 15 individuals from HUTECH received certificates of merit from the Ministry of Education and Training for their exceptional contributions to the “Innovation in Management, Teaching, and Learning” initiative for 2023–2024
53 groups were recognized as Outstanding Labor Collectives by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee
Eight groups and 18 individuals recognized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Vietnam Education Union
Commendations from the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department for one group and four individuals
The event also celebrated several individual milestones.
Four faculty members were officially recognized as Associate Professors by the State Council for Professors
Mr. Le Hong Hieu was honored as a "National Outstanding Educator" and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung as a "Promising Young Educator of Ho Chi Minh City"
HUTECH also announced various awards recognizing exceptional performance in the 2023–2024 academic year.
Six groups and 16 individuals for outstanding service
Two faculty members who completed their doctoral studies
Four groups for excellence in undergraduate program accreditation
Thirty-three faculty members were recognized for mentoring students to achieve outstanding results in academic competitions, along with a project member honored for successfully digitizing the exhibition space of the Ho Chi Minh Museum
Around 500 students were awarded HUTECH Talent and Perseverance Scholarships
The celebration of 42 years of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day was a resounding success, fostering pride and solidarity among all participants. The achievements celebrated not only underscore the dedication of HUTECH’s faculty, staff, and students but also serve as a driving force for future milestones. With its mission to cultivate high-quality human resources, HUTECH remains committed to innovation, growth, and excellence in higher education, contributing to an advanced, globally integrated education system.
A celebration filled with joy, pride, and unity for every member of HUTECH
The ceremony welcomed several prominent guests, including Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy Chief of the Southern Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Mr. Tran Thanh Thang, Head of Administration and Finance at the Southern Center for Education and Training Development, under the Ministry of Education and Training. Representatives from government agencies, organizations, and business partners were also present.
HUTECH’s leadership was presented with Dr. Kieu Tuan, Party Secretary and Permanent Member of the University Board of Directors; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cao Minh Thi, Chairman of the Founding Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Xuan Liem, former President and Member of the University Board of Directors; Dr. Nguyen Toan, Member of the Founding Council; Dr. Kieu Xuan Hung, Chairman of the University Board of Directors; Prof. Dr. Sc. Ho Dac Loc, President; and Dr. Vu Van Hoang, President of the HUTECH Alumni Association and HUTECH Entrepreneur Club, along with faculty members and staff.
