In the 4.0 revolution, the question of whether ‘Robots can replace humans’ is still under debate. This requires each individual to be highly adaptable to any changes in their fields. The workshop, ‘The Legal and Ethical Aspects of Artificial Intelligence,’ organized by the Department of International Relations and Project Management at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) on October 7, offered students a chance to explore various perspectives on this issue.
Dr. Alison Lui, the Associate Dean (Global Engagement) for the Faculty of Business and Law at Liverpool John Moores University, was thrilled to speak about the topic with HUTECH students.

As part of the workshop, Dr. Alison Lui provided an overview of various issues surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI), including AI application trends in developed countries (Japan, the USA, Germany, etc.), fields that are being automated (customer service, auto mechanics, self-driving cars, etc.), and potential legal issues arising from intellectual property copyright.

With regards to the impact of AI on various industries, especially legal and ethical concerns, Dr. Alison Lui noted that robot substitution is inevitable. On the other hand, AI regulations face significant challenges, particularly in determining whether the robot entity should be considered a ‘legal person'.

Dr. Lui provided examples of autonomous vehicles (self-driving cars) and various AI tools, such as ‘robot’ lawyers and Generative AI, to help HUTECH students explore challenges related to legal and ethical responsibilities in case of emergency. Dr. Lui emphasized that improper or excessive use of AI could lead to consequences such as data security issues, concerns over accuracy and fairness, and infringements on the rights and interests of the community.
Dr. Lui’s presentation contributed to a well-rounded understanding of Artificial Intelligence for students
In addition to providing theoretical insights, Dr. Lui encouraged HUTECH students to discuss the benefits and limitations of using AI tools, the mindset and skills necessary for their application, the future of AI, and the establishment of a legal framework for AI to ensure a sustainable development. This helps students gain a well-rounded understanding of Artificial Intelligence and provides opportunities to enhance their skills amid the era of new technological trends.
