On August 8th, students of HUTECH Environmental Management had a field trip to the Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve.
Accompanying the students on the trip were lecturers in Environment, including Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong, Ms. Le Thi Vu Lan, Ms. Vo Hong, and Mr. Trinh Trong Nguyen - Head of Experimental Practice Center.
The field trip to Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reverse
During the trip, students studied about the diverse ecosystem with 318 species of vascular plants, including 37 species of mangrove trees, 56 species that join the mangrove forest, and 225 imported species.
Can Gio Mangrove Forest is a diverse conservation of tropical ecosystem, and a habitat for multiple creatures/organisms such as 89 species of insects, 282 species of fish, 36 species of amphibians, 36 species of reptiles, 164 species of birds, 35 species of mammal.
The variance of flora and fauna at the Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve creates an image of harmonic habitat, which partly conserves the biological diversity in southern Vietnam.
Students had opportunities to study about the habitat
In addition to studying about the ecosystem, the field trip raised the students’ awareness of conserving rare species. The Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve has 03 sanctuaries for special species: the Vam Sat Bird Sanctuary, the Dam Doi Bat Sanctuary, and the Dao Khi Monkey Sanctuary. Many rare flora and fauna in the Vietnam Red List (2007) also live here, such as Lumnitzera littorea and Azima sarmentosa.
The trip helps students better understand the importance of conserving rare species
The trip raised the students’ awareness of national biodiversity conservation
The field trip to Can Gio is not only part of the study program, but also a valuable practical experience, facilitating HUTECH students a higher awareness of biodiversity conservation and environmental responsibility.
