On November 8, 2020, the US-based Journal of PLoS Biology announced a list of the world’s top 100,000 most influential scientists. In particular, there are 2 Vietnamese scientists, namely Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung - Director of CIRTech Institute (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - HUTECH) and Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc (Vietnam National University - Hanoi), who have made the top ranking by lifetime achievement.
In addition, HUTECH also has Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Vice President of the University is named among the Top 100,000 most influential scientists in the world based on single-year citation impact in 2020.
3 outstanding researchers from Vietnam enter the ranking of the world's most influential scientists in 2020
This publication is based on the research conducted by the Metrics group of Jeroen Baas and colleagues analyzing Scopus's database from 1960 to 2019 of 7 million scientists and selected the Top 100,000 most influential researchers. The study is built on the database of 100,000 most-cited scientists (from Scopus's source) and ranked based on six indexes of citations: total number of citations; Hirsch h-index; Schreiber hm-index; the number of citations from single-authored articles; citation count for articles as sole/first-author and citation count for articles as sole/first/last author.
According to the 2020’s publication, there are 22 Vietnamese scientists residing and working in the country in the Top 100,000 most influential scientists in the world. Besides Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan also has other scientists from Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, University of Civil Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Phenikaa University, International University - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, University of Science and Technology Hanoi and Bach Khoa University.

According to this year's ranking, HUTECH also has Dr. Phung Van Phuc - Lecturer of the Faculty of Civil Engineering was ranked 107,150 on the list based on single-year citation impact in 2020.
