Lemongrass Essence for Mosquito Extermination

Truong Ngoc Bao Tran, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology student, has successfully researched on utilizing lemongrass essence in mosquito extermination and created environment-friendly biological products to kill the insect.

Eureka 2013 Council of Students Research Assessment has highly evaluated Bao Tran's project on using lemongrass essence to eradicate mosquito. “There are currently thousands of mosquito extermination products which contain toxication. Thus, a cheap and affordable eco-friendly mosquito repellents is crucial for human”, stated Bao Tran.
Tran also indicated three efficient methods to produce lemongrass essence including soaking, cooking and distilling. The experiments showed that a mixture of lemongrass essence and water to the rate of 1:200 or 1:100 can kill mosquito effectively. In addition, Dr. Thai Van Nam, Deputy Head of Bio-Food Technology and Environment Department, gave a compliment, “This is a promising project which creates eco-friendly products that can exterminate mosquito efficiently”.
